There are many options for wood that can be used to make window blinds, but some are better than others. Let’s look at some of the wood that probably should not use before we look at those that are recommended.

Although the oak hardwood is a very good and very furniture that can present a problem when used for blinds. To begin with, the oak is very heavy so oak interior shutters will add a great deal of weight to the window jambs. They will also have to be pre-drilled, they are not really suitable for painting, blinds and are prone to warping. As you can surmise, these are not a good option for blinds.

Like the oak, maple wood is a very heavy and is often used for furniture, such as dining and bedroom furniture. Because it is so heavy that also requires pre-drilling of the window jambs and the louvers are difficult to tension properly.

The next area that move in the forest that are suitable for blinds. Poplar is moderately heavy wood and is good for use if the finished product will be painted, but the green streaks and minerals inherent in the timber does not allow staining. Readily available and low cost, which translates into a lower-quality wooden shutter.

Cedar is a good option in some cases because the factories and ends well, but it is a very soft wood and is easy to dents or scratches. If you are thinking of using wood for exterior window treatments is excellent with its resistance to bugs and decay that will last a long time with little maintenance required.

Pino is a timber that is used for various products for the construction of houses to the furniture in them. It is very smooth and there are many grades of pine to choose from. But this is not at the top of my list for use on your window blinds.

The best wood in the view of many is Basswood. The tree is found mainly in the east coast of North America ranging from Quebec in Canada to Delaware and then in the west of eastern Kentucky. The trees grow at an average height of over sixty-five feet. Basswood is a renewable resource and how the trees are collected balances growth of new trees to the elimination of other wood. The result blinds are extremely straight and an indistinct grain and a uniform texture.
Basswood results in a very straight shutters with a fine indistinct grain, which are easy to assemble, and can be stained by a beautiful finish.
